Vietnam’s rice imports in 9 months set all-time record

HANOI, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) — Vietnam’s rice import turnover has posted 996 million U.S. dollars in the first nine months of this year – a record high number of all time, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
The turnover recorded a year-on-year growth of 57.3 percent and exceeded the import statistics of 860 million dollars for the whole of 2024, local media reported Wednesday.
If imports continue at the same pace as the last two months, turnover could reach 1.3 billion dollars this year, said the report.
Meanwhile, Vietnam exported more than 7 million tons of rice during the cited period, earning 4.37 billion dollars, a year-on-year surge of 23.5 percent in value, said the department. ■
